The Bay County Sheriff’s Office has received information that several individuals in Bay County have received emails claiming to be from Bank of America.

The emails appear to be authentic and inform the recipient that there is a problem with the recipient’s account. The email requests the recipient respond with personal financial information.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office has ascertained the emails are fraudulent. Bank of America, and any other financial institution, does not do business by email and would never request personal financial information by email.

Please do not respond to any emails requesting personal information, especially one claiming to be from a financial institution. As the holiday season approaches, law enforcement anticipates an increase in all types of scams and frauds. Anyone who believes they may have been the victim of a scam or fraud is asked to contact local law enforcement.
