The Bay County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of a Texas man after he took money from an elderly Bay County resident to put up a fence and instead returned to Texas with the money.
In
December of 2018, a complaint was filed in reference to the theft. BCSO
Criminal investigators contacted the victim who stated he had hired David Wayne
Court to build him a fence. Court required half payment up front and took $2250
from the victim, claiming he would start work on December 7, 2018. Court gave the victim numerous excuses until
by December 14, the victim could no longer reach Court by phone.
Investigators learned that Court had returned to Texas after taking the victim’s money and appeared to have no intention of providing the work he was paid to do.
A
warrant for the arrest of David Wayne Court, age 31, on a charge of Grand Theft
has been issued.
Residents
are encouraged to never pay for work or materials before work is done. Payment
for materials should be done as materials are delivered, or should be purchased
directly from the store by the person hiring work to be done. Payment for labor
should only be done after labor has been completed.
