Industrial Accident at Eastern Shipbuilding

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to Eastern Shipbuilding in the Allenton area of Bay County this morning to investigate a death.

BCSO
Patrol deputies responded to find an employee of Belfor, a construction company
contracted to do roof repair, had fallen through a roof and died at the scene.

BCSO
Criminal Investigations responded to conduct a death investigation, which is
done at any unattended death. Investigators believe the contractor was carrying
sheet metal on the roof when he stepped on a skylight, falling about 30 feet to
his death. No foul play is suspected at this time.

The
victim was from Orlando and brought to Bay County to fix a roof damaged by
Hurricane Michael at Eastern Shipbuilding. He has been identified as
forty-three-year-old Darwin Soares, Jr.
