The Bay County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division (SID) seized three pounds of crystal methamphetamine, cash, and handguns this week as one drug bust led to a second with a total of two arrests.
On
June 4, 2019, SID conducted a traffic stop on Mikeyshia D. Akins-Smith. It was
known that she had two felony warrants out of Bay County and a violation of
probation warrant out of Georgia on drug and gun charges. Akins-Smith was taken
into custody and during a search of her vehicle investigators located one pound
of crystal methamphetamine, $3300 in US currency, numerous drug paraphernalia
items, and a handgun. Because she was in possession of one pound of crystal
meth, Akins-Smith now faces a trafficking charge carrying a minimum mandatory
sentence of 25 years in prison.
On
June 5, 2019, working on information developed during the bust on June 4, SID
investigators served a search warrant at a residence off Sherman Avenue. During
that search, investigators found approximately two pounds of crystal
methamphetamine, $1100 in cash, and two handguns. One of the handguns had been
reported stolen.
Mikeyshia
Akins-Smith, age 40, of Sherman Avenue, Panama City, was charged with Trafficking
in more than 400 grams of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Firearm by a
Convicted Felon. Arrested the second day was Mathew Wood, age 45, of Sunflower
Lane, Panama City, on charges of Trafficking in more than 400 grams of
Methamphetamine and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
The
investigation continues and additional arrests are expected.
